This soothing water garden combines contemporary European design with a refined Japanese touch. Our modern interpretation of the Japanese water garden with tea house.

According to Japanese garden philosophy a water stream is the source of life and the pond is life itself. Rocks are the obstacles in life that we encounter. By crossing the bridge you are leaving the familiar world behind and stepping into the green world, with the teahouse as a sanctuary for meditation. Meandering paths invite you to discover the garden and enjoy the views. Everything contributes to a mindful experience.

The materials that are used are inspired by wabi sabi principles. These are about imperfection and beautiful aging. A garden that only gets a deeper patina over the years. The paths in the shade allow moss to grow just like on the soft, porous clay tiles of the roof. A collaboration with artist Xander Spronken resulted in a special bridge made of 2cm thick raw steel plates. The surface will continue to corrode and change. The boulders come from a harbour and are over 100 years old.

This garden is a beautiful example of perfect collaboration. Thanks to close consultation between client, garden designer, lighting architect, architect and a perfect execution of gardener and contractor this special garden has been created.
